The women's sailor jumper

And as we want to sell them at a fair price, these pieces are available as a pre-order only available from our e-shop.

By pre-ordering, you will kick off the production process. We will only produce what we sell (while producing a small amount of extra stock to allow for any size exchanges).
This new system will involve a little more waiting on your part but will guarantee you a quality/price ratio that would otherwise be impossible.

To start this new adventure, we wanted to tackle a classic sailor garment, which over the centuries has become an essential part of winter wardrobes: the sailor jumper. Its pre-order will stop on 23rd November, with delivery between the 12th and 20th of December.

A wonderful treat for yourself or a gift to offer that can be passed on down the generations.

The wool

For our women's sailor jumper, we use wool spun in a workshop with exceptional expertise: the Zegna Baruffa spinning mill in Biella, Italy. Since 1850, Zegna Baruffa has been spinning wool to create the finest, purest and softest yarn. We have selected the “Cashwool” yarn, a 100% 19.5-micron merino wool, famous for being as silky as silk and as soft as cashmere. The unique properties of this yarn is thanks to a combination of specialist craftsmanship and technical innovation. The secret of CASHWOOL® 1978 begins with the raw material: wool, selected with the greatest care, that is extremely fine and pure.

The knit

Once dyed, Zegna Baruffa yarn arrives in the form of spools at our specialist knitting factory in Troyes. In this workshop, Luis and his teams carefully operate dozens of rectilinear machines every day, allowing them to knit jumpers with various gauges and bindings off. We chose a 12-gauge for this sailor jumper This gauge provides a dense knit that will retain your body heat and protect you from the cold. The quality of the wool and the density of the knit ensure excellent strength and durability. Our soft, lightweight knit has excellent thermoregulation properties and incomparable softness. 500 grams of wool will be knitted to make your model.

Sewing

Once the knit is ready and in preformed panels, it is passed onto our seamstresses. Our expert seamstresses then carefully sew the panels together The body and the sleeves are cut according to the pattern drawn by our design office in Quimper. The neck is entirely reknitted using an extremely meticulous technique. We have developed a close-fitting cut, faithful to the original model, which is also loose enough to ensure you have enough movement. And for an ultra-feminine touch, we have added a slightly openwork high neck.

Detailing

Our distinctive detail: the 5 neckline buttons are sewn onto a button placket on the left shoulder. But they're not just any buttons! These are real golden jewels that make our sailor jumper even more feminine. They are made by our partner Corne et Corozo, based in Couzon au Mont d'Or, near Lyon.

Care instructions

Contrary to popular belief, our 100% merino wool sailor jumper can be machine washed on a 30°C cycle. Once washed, dry it flat. The wool does not absorb odours, and should not be washed after each wear.
